Logan Downtown Alliance recognizes Renovation of the Year recipients

The Logan Downtown Alliance has announced Bluebird Candy Company and 22 East Center St. as the recipients of its 2018 Downtown Renovation of the Year award.

The press release said Justin Hamilton, owner of the candy company, has demonstrated a substantial effort to reinvest in downtown and is being recognized for revitalizing this downtown space and structure.

“My hope for the Bluebird is to take it back to its original grandeur,” Hamilton said, according to the press release. “At the turn of the century, in the early 1900s, every town had its little hand-dipped chocolate shops … not a lot of them survived, so it is very unique to still find old hand-dipped chocolate companies.”

Updates to the candy company include an enlarged retail space with glass displays and exposed historic brick walls. It will also include improvements to the art-deco exterior on the front of the building and an open public space in the alley.

22 East is the former home of Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone Company. The building was repurposed by Milieu Design, a full-service design firm located in Logan.

The building was originally built in 1906 and is now home to Flats Luxury Suites, Kulor Salon and Plum Floral.

According to the press release, the transformation of 22 East by Milieu Design supports the mission of Mayor Holly Daines to revitalize Logan’s Historic Center Street.
